Wou-Ki Zao

ZAO - BIOGRAPHY

1920 - Zao Wou-ki is born in Beijing.
1935 - Zao Wou-ki enters the Hang Tchou School of Fine Arts.
1941 - Zao Wou-ki becomes a teacher in the same school where he stays for 6 years.
1948 - Zao Wou-ki settles in Paris and dedicates himself to painting.
1950 - The artist signs a contract with Pierre Loeb, a merchant. He becomes acquainted with Picasso, Soulages, Hartung and Vieira da Silva.
1952 - Zao’s first major exhibition in New York.
1955 - Zao Wou-ki signs a contract with the Gallery of France
1964 - Zao Wou-ki becomes a French citizen thanks to André Malraux.
1972 - Zao Wou-ki returns for the first time to China, after 24 years of absence.
1973 - The artist is named Knight of the Legion of Honour.
