BLAIS - BIOGRAPHY

1956 - Jean-Charles Blais is born in Nantes, France.
1974 - Jean-Charles Blais attends the Academy of Fine Arts in Rennes.
1980 - Jean-Charles Blais starts painting on materials that have been recovered or found and also works with torn-down posters.
1981 - Jean-Charles Blais joins the "Figuration Libre" movement, appearing side-by-side with François Boisrond, Remy Blanchard and Robert Combas.
1982 - The first exhibition dedicated to Jean-Charles Blais is held at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Bordeaux. This same year, the artist's work is exhibited at the Yvon Lambert gallery in Paris, where Blais' art is shown several times during the following years.
1987 - Exhibition dedicated solely to the Jean-Charles Blais art at the Centre Pompidou in Paris.
1990 - Jean-Charles Blais decorated the underground station "Assemblée Nationale" in Paris with a vast fresco representing heads and busts of different colours, illustrations renewed from time to time.
1991 - Jean-Charles Blais exhibits at the Staatsgalerie Morderner Kunst in Munich and at the Catherine Issert gallery in Saint Paul de Vence, France.
1996 - Jean-Charles Blais undertakes a project for the Modern Art Museum in New York called "the telephone booths" within the framework of the famous exhibition "thinking print".
1998 - Jean-Charles Blais exhibits artworks made from fabric by a sewing workshop at the Yvon Lambert gallery in Paris and later at the Bawag foundation in Vienna.
2000 - Jean-Charles Blais experiments with digital techniques creating works that are exhibited in the greatest museums and most prestigious galleries in the world.

"Jean-Charles Blais - Estampes", catalogue made by Philippe Piguet, 32 original prints by the artist are here described, lithographs, etchings linocuts and illustrated books. Edition limited at 1500 copies by the Modern Art Museum of Toulouse.
