Andy Warhol created Paratrooper Boots (Negative) for his Ads illustration series in the mid-1980s. This bold and powerful painting portrays iconic Cold War imagery that Warhol recreated as a series of advertisements. Central to this painting is the imagery of a paratrooper’s boots, reflecting on themes of army readiness. While Andy was most notably known for his celebrity pop art portraits, Paratrooper Boots (Negative) is an example of Warhol’s political artworks, commenting on the commercialization of the awareness of an impending war. Paratrooper Boots (Negative) is a unique painting, and was once in the collection of the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, Inc.
