Andy Warhol created Flowers 70 for his portfolio of 10 screenprints in 1970. In this portfolio Warhol repeats the same simple image ten times but each has their own personality with the drastic color choices for each screenprint. Using a detail from a photograph of hibiscus flowers taken by nature photographer Patricia Caulfield, Andy Warhol was able to take a simple image and create one of his most popular Pop Art portfolios. Flowers 70 features a powder blue, a honeysuckle yellow, and light orange flowers, set against a pale pink background with fuchsia blades of grass. This color palate is the most muted of the portfolio where other screenprints feature bold, vibrant and contrasting colors. The creative composition choices of this portfolio make it one of Warhol’s most popular portfolios among collectors.
