Linocut on laid paper, 12,7 x 8 cm (plate), 43,8 x 32,5 cm (sheet). Signed "aug. tschinkel". Published by Werner Kunze Gallery, Berlin 1972. Reference: Brockstedt Gallery 1975, Tschinkel ff (with illustration).

Tschinkel, who had studied at the School of Applied Arts in Prague from 1921 to 1924, joined the "Kölner Progressive" ("Cologne Progressives") in 1928. Like Gerd Arntz, he worked from 1929 for the Österreichisches Gesellschafts- und Wirtschaftsmuseum (Austrian Museum of Society and Economy in Vienna), later the „Institut für Bildstatistik“ ("Institute for Image Statistics"). In the course of the 1930s Tschinkel returned to Czechoslovakia, where he worked primarily as a commercial artist.

The " Gruppe progressiver Künstler Köln" (Cologne Progressives) was founded in 1923 by Heinrich Hoerle, Franz Wilhelm Seiwert and Gerd Arntz and counted among its wider circle artists such as Otto Freundlich, Augustin Tschinkel and the photographer August Sander. The Cologne Progressives formally combined their political and social concerns with strictly constructive principles.
