Henri Matisse (1869-1954)
Title: Nu accroupi, une cordeliers nouée autour de cou
Crouching nude with a rope around her neck
Medium: Original Etching, 1931, plate number 164, Chine appliqué paper, on Velin Arches paper, signed by the artist in pencil lower right
Size: Image: 12.1 x 9.1 cms.; 4 ¾ x 3 9/16 inches ; Sheet 28 x 38 cms
Note: This comes from a large series of nudes made by the artists in the ’20’s and 30’s. They are generally with loose lines and unanatomical in presentation. They have a power and fascination way above their apparently simplistic lines.

Provenance: 1) The Artists Family, 2) Lumley Cazalet Ltd (Their label verso).
The Lumley Cazalet Gallery (1967 - 2001) was based in Davies Street and dealt in 20th century French art. They enjoyed close links with members of the Matisse family from whom this work comes.
