AN OUTSTANDING PROOF BEFORE LETTERS OF LAURENS' MASTERPIECE, ONE OF THE GREAT PRINTS OF THE ETCHING REVIVAL.
A wonderful portrait of an old woman on her deathbed. Laurens etched her name, "Victoire Tranchart", into the plate, thus guaranteeing that, despite his subject's anonymous life, her name would live on.
From the collection of Eugène Daurand Forgues (1857-1933), Premier Président de la Cour d'Appel and an illustrious print collector (his inkstamp, Lugt 743a, at center of lower edge of plate.)
Printed on fine laid paper.
In excellent condition.
