Etienne-Adrien DRIAN - Monsieur de Bougrelon

Lorrain, Jean.
Monsieur de Bougrelon.
Paris: Les Editions d'Art Devambez, 1927.

A livre d'artiste with 16 color etchings (with aquatint) by Etienne-Adrien Drian, each in four states.

From a total edition of 375 copies, this is ONE OF ONLY 20 NUMBERED COPIES BEAUTIFULLY PRINTED ON ANTIQUE JAPANESE PAPER, WITH THE ETCHINGS IN FOUR STATES AND A FULL-PAGE COLOR DRAWING SIGNED BY DRIAN.

The masterful, haunting drawing depicts an ecstatic black man conducting music (or playing the drums) in the jungle, surrounded by monkeys and banana trees.

4to. BEAUTIFULLY BOUND BY CREUZEVAULT (signed) IN FULL MOROCCO, ARMS GILT ON BOTH COVERS.

Henri Creuzevault (1905-1971) was one of the leading French binders of the 20th century. Top edge gilt, other edges uncut. Original wraps and backstrip bound in.

A little very faint internal spotting, else fine and bright. (Note: the spotting, in this case, is due to the oxidation of iron particles in the paper. This kind of spotting does not damage the paper.)

A beautiful book, inside and out.
