A SIGNED AND DEDICATED INDIA INK DRAWING BY DALI TO DR. ROUCAUTE, his personal doctor and friend.
Most of Dalí's presentation drawings were done on the spur of the moment in ballpoint or felt-tip pen, and are rather simple compositions. This one, however, is in India ink, with Dalí's characteristic carefully-planned spatter: it was obviously prepared ahead of time for presentation.
The drawing measures 27.5 x 30 cm and features several typical elements of Dalí's iconography: a knight on horseback, an angel, a dedicatory phrase, a signature with a crown, and a date. They are arranged in an absolutely wonderful apparent chaos--making it impossible to know what to look at first, or what to focus on--and yet there is perfect harmony.
