Note:
Christo envisioned a striking project that captivated imaginations: the wrapping of Ponte Sant'Angelo in Rome. This iconic bridge, steeped in history and adorned with angelic sculptures, would undergo a transformation under Christo's vision. Creating a maquette, or a small-scale model as here, was a crucial step in Christo's artistic process. It allowed him to translate his grand ideas into tangible forms, serving as a blueprint for the eventual realization of his ambitious project. The maquette for the wrapped Ponte Sant'Angelo is a meticulous representation of Christo's concept, showcasing the intricate details and careful planning required for such an undertaking. In his signature style, Christo's project would have involved draping the bridge in fabric, completely altering its appearance and inviting viewers to reconsider their relationship with the familiar landmark. By wrapping Ponte Sant'Angelo, Christo aimed to challenge perceptions of space, architecture, and the role of art in the urban environment.
