Lithograph on thin wove paper, 15,7 x 11,4 cm (sheet). Monogrammed in the stone. Inscribed by another hand on the verso: "Josef Čapek/1917".
Čapek was one of the main representatives of Czech Cubism. In the 1920s, as a commercial artist, he was also responsible for a whole series of cover designs, which owe their charm less to cubism than to imaginative and varied typography. Some of these covers also adorn the writings of his brother Karel Čapek, to whose invention the word "robot" goes back.
