Pablo PICASSO - Exposition Vallauris, 1963

Announcing the 1963 Vallauris Exhibition, Picasso focuses on one of the central aspects of the fair: bullfights. Elegant lines shape a stately bull, while quirky line work denote the text, all coming together with an enhanced design that entices the viewer. The elements are simple - whimsical, blocked white font against a rich, brown background. Simply conceived, boldly executed, this poster is a wonderful example of Picasso's eloquent handling of linocut, a medium that other artists often find difficult and clumsy, but one in which Picasso excelled.

Created in 1963, this original linocut or linoleum cut is hand signed by Pablo Picasso (Malaga, 1881 - Mougins, 1973) in pencil in the lower right margin. Printed by Arnéra, Vallauris and published by Association des Potiers de Vallauris, this work is numbered from the edition of 170 and printed on wove paper.
