Notes: This was an official poster for the Winter Olympics in Sarajevo, 1984 and the Committee commissioned 15 nationally known artists to create unique designs to promote the event. There’s so much dynamism and excitement in this image - David Hockney's 'joiner' photomontage perfectly captures the sense of a skater mid-twirl. The technique of using a number of images stuck together to create a cohesive whole is known as a “Joiner series” and it is something which you find many examples of in Hockney’s art.
