Jean DUBUFFET - Epiphanor

Created as a screenprint in colors by Jean Dubuffet in 1973, Epiphanor is from the Présences Fugaces series, is hand-monogrammed, dated and numbered in pencil and measures 29 ¾ x 21 7/8 in (76 x 56 cm), unframed. From the edition of 100, this artwork is noted as Webel 1163 in the artist’s catalogue raisonne. Présences Fugaces is characterised by Dubuffet’s interest in spontaneous and ephemeral human expressions, Epiphanor portraying an abstracted figure, deconstructed into interlocking irregular, that embody Dubuffet’s interest in the raw, unrefined aspects of human existence and for the artist, conveys a sense of immediacy and urgency reflecting his philosophical musings on the transient nature of human emotions.
