This series of photographs is the result of an unexpected embrace of digital “noise,” the intense pixelation that often occurs when over-manipulating an image in a computer program.
Rather than ignoring or discarding this digital garbage, De Haan elevates noise to the position of an aesthetic artifact, enhancing the processes that lead to it and allowing the noise to become a medium in itself.
