In dialogue with an aphorism by Cioran, the Belgian painter questions the relationship between history and time. Lines coil and cross without building a linear narrative; forms seem to belong to several times at once. To the writer's disenchanted view of history, Alechinsky responds with a labyrinthine space where time folds back on itself: the "schism" breaks both historical continuity and form.
