Jacques VILLON - Le confrère toulousain / ORIGINAL CHARCOAL, WATERCOLOR, AND GOUACHE DRAWING

A LARGE AND STUNNING ORIGINAL CHARCOAL, WATERCOLOR, AND GOUACHE BARBERSHOP SCENE by JACQUES VILLON.

A full-page reproduction of this drawing was published in Le Courrier Français (vol. XXII, nº 27 / July 6, 1905). It is described and reproduced in Ginestet & Pouillon's catalogue raisonné of Villon's prints and illustrations (I 206, p. 477).

Signed in charcoal by Villon, and dedicated in pen "à l'ami Aymé Kunc". Aymé Kunc (1877-1958) was a celebrated composer and served and director of the Toulouse Conservatory (1914-1944).

A fabulous and important drawing in Villon's early style.

(On the verso is another drawing by Villon: a much smaller, beautifully-executed sketch of an elegant woman.)
