Richard Paul LOHSE - 12 VERTICAL AND HORIZONTAL PROGRESSIONS - EXACTA FROM CONSTRUCTIVISM TO SYSTEMATIC ART 1918-1985

Serial order is fundamentally distinguished from every principle of form, according to their development via Russian constructivism, by De Stijl or the Bauhaus.
In 1943-44, for the first time in the history of art, the principle of the series and the unity of the assembly of color on a more linear basis was realized by means of the 12 vertical and horizontal progressions.
The standards are introduced as a figurative means. The hypothesis of the possibility of enlarging the figurative systems is the integration of figurative means and limits.
Introduction of the combined operative principles:
The standard element becomes group, the group series. The number of colors of a progression establishes the number of colors of all the progressions, the number of progressions establishes the dimensions of the work.
Introduction of the mass of color into the unity:
In every order of size it is possible to imagine horizontal or vertical progression of colors, analogous to the principle of rotation, in the circuit closed within itself.
The principle of the series contains, in congruity with the start and end of the action of the image, the operative identity of all the progressions and of all the elements. Each color is distributed in the same quantity in each progression, and each progression in the same quantity on the total
surface.
The dialectical law establishes:
the change of one color in a progression leads to the change of all the progressions and consequently to the change of the total structure.
