Walter KÜHNE - Untitled

An outstanding impression of this enigmatic drypoint, with lush burr.

Signed in pencil by the artist and annotated "II Zust. 2 Probedr. 15.11.9." ("Second state, 2nd working proof, November 11, 1909.") Also titled in pencil, illegibly (at least for me), at bottom left of platemark.

Printed on extremely fine Japanese paper. In perfect condition.

Apparently an allegorical scene, in which both of the figures strongly resemble the artist's wife Renata. He depicts her both as sensual, supine, and naked and as prim and proper--the artist is perhaps bemoaning his changing relationship with his wife (his first child had been born in 1902; his second in 1907).

Most of the artist's work was destroyed by a bomb at the end of WWII. I have found no recorded impression of this drypoint.
